SMHAF 2023 Programme Open for Submissions
The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF), led by the Mental Health Foundation, will take place Wednesday 4th October – Sunday 22nd October 2023. This year, the festival explores the theme of “Revolution”. They are looking for groups and organisations from across Scotland to get involved by contributing events to the SMHAF programme, and engage people in their local area.
Camelon & Tamfourhill Safer Streets Open Doors Event
The Camelon & Tamfourhill Safer Streets Open Doors Event will take place next Friday 23rd June, 11am – 2pm at the Forth Valley Sensory Centre, Redbrae Road, Camelon, FK1 4DD. Refreshments will be available. With themes of “Combating Poverty” and “Community Safety”, there will be a number of local groups and services on the day to speak about the support they can offer.
FREE “Healthy Eating on a Budget” Course
Forth Valley College is running a FREE 2 day course teaching participants to cook various healthy 2 course meals on a budget. “Healthy Eating on a Budget” takes place on Wednesday 21st June and Wednesday 28th June, 9:30am – 1pm both days, at the college’s Falkirk Campus, Grangemouth Road, Falkirk, FK2 9AD.
Young People and Volunteering Briefing
Earlier this week, to mark both Volunteers’ Week and Power of Youth Day, Volunteer Scotland and YouthLink Scotland published a joint briefing, “Young People and Volunteering”. The briefing explores the policy implications from Volunteer Scotland’s recent “Young People in Scotland 2022” research for volunteering and youth work, and details a number of recommendations.

Board Members will be required to attend monthly board meetings (usually Wednesday afternoons at the FDCU office in Grangemouth). Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund
Aviva, in partnership with the WWF and the RSPB, has launched the Save Our Wild Isles Community Fund, with £1 million available to support community groups across the UK in protecting and restoring nature in their local area. The fund is designed to make it easier for communities to “take action for nature”. There is no deadline for the fund; once the £1 million has been allocated, the fund will close.
CAP “Taking on UK Poverty” Report and Debt Help
Christians Against Poverty (CAP) has released their annual Client Report, “Taking on UK Poverty”. The report highlights the impact problem debt has on mental health, and the problems CAP’s clients in Scotland are currently facing. CAP offers a free debt help service in Forth Valley, and their team are able to meet with people and stay with them throughout becoming debt free.
