Bridging the Gap Project Business Support
Empower Women for Change’s “Bridging the Gap” project aims to help women from Black, Asian and ethnic minority (BAME) backgrounds and communities start their own business, providing free support and advice. The project includes workshops, a weekly drop-in session, every Tuesday 1pm – 3pm in Glasgow city centre, and is available for those from the Glasgow, Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire, Falkirk District and Edinburgh areas.
Money Advice Scotland “Dignity First” Event
As part of their 2024 “Dignity First” campaign, Money Advice Scotland is holding an in-person event on Thursday 21st March, 10am – 2pm in Glasgow (venue to be confirmed). Dignity First aims to challenge and transform conversations, language and communication about money, debt, and financial challenges.
Healthy Hybrid Working Online Session
The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO) is holding an online session, “Healthy Hybrid Working”, on Thursday 29th February, 1pm – 2pm, which will focus on tangible steps organisations can take to restore balance and cultivate contented, healthy hybrid workplaces.
Rebooting Resilience Shared Learning Day Event
The Scottish Community Development Centre (SCDC) has been working with communities and organisations in Falkirk District on the “Rebooting Resilience” project, to explore what helps communities to build resilience. They are holding an in-person Shared Learning Day event on Wednesday 28th February, 10am – 3pm, at Falkirk Council Place Services office, 8 – 10 Inchyra Road, Grangemouth, FK3 9XB.
Emergency Energy and Food Vouchers for Older People
Age Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Gas Network (SGN), has launched a new emergency energy and food voucher initiative to support Scotland’s older people over the winter. The initiative is open to people aged 50 years old and over, who are registered to a Scottish postal address.
New Multiply Numeracy Course Dates
The Larder, in partnership with Falkirk Council, has announced new dates for their free “Multiply” adult numeracy courses, beginning on Thursday 15th February at the Grangemouth Municipal Chambers, Bo’ness Road, Grangemouth, FK3 8AY. The first course will run 9:30am – 12:30pm, with the second course taking place 1pm – 4pm.
Dennis Canavan Scholarship for Young People Open for Nominations
Nominations are open for the Dennis Canavan Scholarship, which awards young people in Falkirk District for a range of community activities and volunteering. The scholarship makes a one-time £500 financial award to a pupil who is pursuing a full-time course in further or higher education. To be eligible, the young person must attend school, live in the Falkirk Council area, and have given notable service to others. The deadline for nominations is Tuesday 30th April.
Climate FORTH Young Leaders Volunteers
Climate FORTH is currently looking for young people aged 18 – 25 years old living in the Inner Forth Area who are interested in becoming volunteer Young Leaders, as part of their new programme. Volunteers are asked to give a minimum commitment of 4 hours per month for 6 months.
Home 2 Hospital Volunteer Drivers
Home 2 Hospital is a new, free cancer patient transport charity based in Larbert and Stenhousemuir; their aim is to improve the quality of life for those living with cancer in the area by removing the stress and cost of transport to treatment. They are currently looking for volunteer drivers to take people living with cancer to their treatments and appointments across Central Scotland, and home again.
