To give back to the local community during the works current programme, Scottish Canals is opening a community fund to support local groups, organisations and communities in the Falkirk District area, the Falkirk Flight Community Fund. Applicants can apply for a small grant of up to £1,000 to support their activity, or obtain an allocation of workdays from the Mackenzie Construction team. The fund is wholly managed by Mackenzie Construction, with the deadline for applications at 12pm on Friday 20 June 2025.

Volant Charitable Trust Small Grants Programme
In response to the cost of living crisis, the Volant Charitable Trust has grants of up to £5,000 available through its Small Grants Programme for one year to cover core or project costs. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 3 June 2025.
SPAR Community Cashback Scheme
SPAR is inviting applications for its £100,000 Community Cashback Scheme, which awards grants to voluntary or community organisations, schools and charities which make a difference within their local area. The deadline for applications is Wednesday 4 June 2025.
Asda Foundation Local Community Spaces Fund
Community organisations which operate community spaces (such as youth clubs, amateur sports clubs, village halls, and Scouting, Guiding and Cadet groups) can apply for grants up to £20,000 through the Asda Foundation’s Local Community Spaces Fund. Applications close at 10am on Wednesday 28 May 2025, or sooner if oversubscribed.
Creative Breaks Programme Grants
The Creative Breaks programme provides 12 month grants to third sector organisations to develop and deliver short breaks projects and services for carers of adults (aged 21 years and over), and young carers (caring for children or adults), and the people that they care for. Completed applications must be submitted by 5pm on Thursday 22 May 2025.
CARES Community Buildings Fund Guidance Webinars
Local Energy Scotland is running 2 online webinars for community groups and other organisations looking to get more information on the guidance for Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Scheme (CARES) Community Buildings Fund: Session 1 on Tuesday 20 May 2025, 6pm – 7pm, and Session 2 on Wednesday 28 May 2025, 12:30pm – 1:30pm.
SFAD Family Support Service
Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD) Family Support Service provide information, signposting and support to anyone in Forth Valley over 16 years old who is affected by someone else’s drug or alcohol use. They are also keen to work with other agencies in the area to provide information for them and people they may already be working with.
New THRE E-Learning Courses
Third Sector Human Rights and Equalities (THRE) has recently launched 2 new e-learning courses on human rights and equalities, which are free to Scotland’s third sector: “Human Rights and Equalities First Approach: The Basics” and “PANEL Principles: Human Rights and Equalities in Practice”.

Know Your Options Session with SDS Forth Valley
Self Directed Support (SDS) is the mechanism for delivering personal and social care in Scotland, providing individuals with choices and control over their care. Despite its implementation since 2014, reports indicate that awareness of SDS remains limited. To combat this, SDS Forth Valley is hosting an online “Know Your Options” session on Tuesday 3 June 2025, 10am – 11am.
