Community Justice Scotland, in partnership with Scottish Government, is exploring the provision of non-statutory, voluntary throughcare and mentoring services across Scotland for individuals serving short-term prison sentences of up to 4 years. Further research and engagement are now underway, with a number of roundtable discussions facilitated by IRISS, which will take place throughout August and September in Inverness, Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh and online.

Caring with Respect Online Training Course Dates
Falkirk Council’s Adult Support and Protection (ASP) team has announced new dates for their online Caring with Respect training course, taking place 9:15am – 12:30pm on Monday 29th August, Friday 16th September, Tuesday 25th October, and Friday 25th November .
Consultation on Proposed Disability Commissioner Bill
The Scottish Parliament is seeking feedback on their Proposed Disability Commissioner (Scotland) Bill. The Proposal sets out the aims of establishing the role of Disability Commissioner, which will be independent, promote and safeguard the rights of disabled people, amongst other duties. The deadline for responses to the online consultation is NEXT WEDNESDAY 3rd AUGUST.

Better Tomorrow Campaign
United to Prevent Suicide has launched Scotland’s first youth suicide prevention campaign, Better Tomorrow. Better Tomorrow encourages young people to talk, listen and support each other for a better tomorrow, and works closely with social media influencers to raise awareness across their platforms, especially TikTok.
Introduction to Wild Swimming Event
Royal Voluntary Service (RVS) Forth Valley’s “First Time for Everything” Project is holding a free Introduction to Wild Swimming on Friday 19th August. The session will take place at Loch Lubnaig with Wild Wimmin, who have also arranged transport for up to 8 people, with pickups in Alloa and Stirling, along with hot soup, extra clothing and equipment on the day.
The Promise Partnership Fund: Opening Soon
Corra Foundation has announced that applications to The Promise Partnership’s “Keep The Promise” fund will open on Monday 1st August. The fund, which provides funding of up to £250,000 over 2 years for organisations who can think differently and challenge the way they work in order to #KeepThePromise, focuses on 3 critical challenges: Workforce, Right to Education, Youth Justice and Rights. The deadline for applications is Friday 16th September.
CYPFAL Third Sector Fund Now Open
Third sector organisations who support children, young people, families and adult learners are now able to apply for core funding from the new Children, Young People, Families and Adult Learning (CYPFAL) Third Sector Fund, which will provide up to £16 million for 2 years, running April 2023 – March 2025. The new fund focuses on providing core funding to organisations which deliver services and support targeted towards positive outcomes for children, young people, families and adult learners. The deadline for applications is 3pm on Monday 5th September.
Review of Children’s Services Plans and Activity Report Published
The new report, “Improving Outcomes for Children, Young People and Families: Review of Children’s Services Plans and Strategic Engagement Activity”, has now been published, and is available to view or download via the Scottish Government website. The report is a summary review of children’s services plans for 2020 – 2023, and highlights key strengths, areas for development, and details from strategic engagement with local children’s services planning strategic leads.
Making Rights Real Event: “GIRFEC: Policy into Practice”
Supporting The Third Sector (STTS) Project will hold their next UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) Event in the Making Rights Real series, “GIRFEC: Policy into Practice”, on Tuesday 30th August, 10am – 12:30pm, via Zoom. The event series aims to promote the alignment of UNRC incorporation to specific policy areas. This event takes a focus on the Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) policy, particularly around the time of the GIRFEC Guidance Refresh. The session is aimed at anyone working or volunteering in the children’s services sector.
