The Care Inspectorate’s Safe Staffing Programme (SSP) has been commissioned by Scottish Government for work around the Health and Care (Staffing) (Scotland) Act 2019. As part of this work, they want to hear from people with experience volunteering or helping out in care homes for adults and older people. The deadline for responses is Friday 16th September.

Winter Vaccination Programme Underway
The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) has issued advice for the Winter COVID-19 and flu programme, recommending that those most at risk, or those who come into regular contact with those most at risk, will soon become eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine dose to maximise their protection over winter. Where possible, this will be co-administered with the flu vaccine, which has been identified as a safe and effective way to deliver protection.
Info Session: Employ a Paid Member of Staff Through ERI and ETU
Third sector organisations have the opportunity to employee a paid member of staff through Falkirk Council’s Employment and Training Unit (ETU) the fully funded Employer Recruitment Incentive (ERI). Those who would like to find out more about this investment, and about the opportunity to contribute by hosting a placement and upskilling local people who need support into employment, are invited to an online Microsoft Teams meeting this coming Thursday 25th August, 10am – 11am.
2022 SURF Conference Waiting List
The 2022 SURF Conference, “From Slogans to Sound Strategy?”, takes place next Thursday 25th August in Edinburgh. While the conference is fully booked, Scotland’s Regeneration Forum (SURF) is operating a waiting list. The conference will examine policy and practice developments associated with “Community Wealth Building” and “Levelling Up”.

NEW Falkirk Third Sector Forums Launched
We are delighted to announce that we are relaunching our Falkirk Third Sector Forums and Networks, after a period of paring these back to focus on our Third Sector COVID-19 Response Forum, and meet the needs of the sector and communities throughout the pandemic. We believe that now is the time to diversify our Forums and Networks to make space for more targeted and in-depth discussion, planning and organising as we seek to tackle these issues as a sector, and with our partners. The first meeting of the Health and Wellbeing Forum will take place on Wednesday 7th September, 10am – 12pm, online via Zoom.

The survey is open to all third sector groups and organisations operating in Falkirk and District communities, and helps our team at CVS Falkirk create the 2022 Report. The report is not just a recording exercise – it is a chance to celebrate the incredible work of our sector in 2021/22, but it also highlights the issues we face.
Consultation on Proposed Disability Commissioner Bill
The Scottish Parliament is seeking feedback on their Proposed Disability Commissioner (Scotland) Bill. The Proposal sets out the aims of establishing the role of Disability Commissioner, which will be independent, promote and safeguard the rights of disabled people, amongst other duties. The deadline for responses to the online consultation is NEXT WEDNESDAY 3rd AUGUST.
July 2022 Heatwave Information and Guidance
An amber warning for extreme heat is now in place across much of Scotland – including the Falkirk and Forth Valley areas – from 12am on Monday 18th July until 11:59pm on Tuesday 19th July. While the Met Office predicts cooler temperatures after Tuesday, the effects of the heat will likely still be felt throughout the week. As a result, our team at CVS Falkirk has gathered some information from reliable sources which we hope will be of use during these extreme weather conditions.
OSCR Online Updates and Maintenance
The Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) has announced they will be upgrading OSCR Online, the system registered charities in Scotland use to submit their annual return to OSCR. Before the upgrade happens, there will be a period of maintenance from TODAY, Friday 15th July until Sunday 24th July where the system will be unavailable. The upgraded version of OSCR Online will be live from Monday 25th July. The questions asked will not change after the upgrade.
