“Care With Confidence: Power of Attorney” Winter Zoom Sessions
Falkirk and Clackmannanshire Carers Centre has announced their new “Care with Confidence: Power of Attorney” Zoom sessions for unpaid carers. The first Falkirk session is Monday 19th October at 12pm. The sessions are informal, and ask: “What would you do if the person you care for lost the capacity to make decisions on their own?”
Social Work Placements: Third Sector’s Support Needed
The Social Work Education Partnership is working to ensure that all final placement social work students across Scotland are able to access high quality placement opportunities. Along with Iona Colvin (the Chief Social Work Adviser to Scottish Government), the Partnership is reaching out to third sector organisations to create new and innovative placement opportunities for future social workers.
COVID-19 Third Sector Response Forum: October Meeting
The next meeting of the online COVID-19 Third Sector Response Forum takes place on Wednesday 14th October, 3pm – 5pm, and can be accessed via the Zoom link, or with the meeting ID: 963 2261 5679 (password: 171199). The meetings are currently focusing on recovery and renewal.
Parental Employment Support Fund
Falkirk Council has launched the Parental Employment Support Fund (PESF), to help unemployed parents (and those facing in-work poverty) find work, boost skill sets and get advice on money. The fund will also provide support for parents who face barriers to progressing their careers, including help to gain qualifications, improving skills or work experience; money advice, and motivational support.
Inclusion Health Principles and Practice: COVID-19 Report
Public Health Scotland has published a report on why and how taking a human rights based approach to planning the response to, and recovery from, the COVID-19 pandemic can help support the most marginalised and excluded in communities, and help prevent further increases in inequality in Scotland.
ASP Level 2 Bespoke Online Training: Winter 2020
Falkirk Council’s Adult Support and Protection (ASP) team is running “ASP Level 2 – Bespoke Care Home/NMC Registered Staff” online training across various dates, with the next October dates being Thursday 15th October and Wednesday 28th October, both 1:30pm – 3:30pm. All training will take place using MS Teams; participants must be able to access Teams via a laptop or computer with a webcam, sound facilities, and can be connected to the internet. This course is an update for previous ASP levels 2A/2B training, therefore all staff who previously completed those will be required to undertake this course.
Challenge Poverty Week 2020
We know that many people and communities are struggling as a result of COVID-19, and especially financially, as furlough schemes and different funding come to an end. As a result, this year’s Challenge Poverty Week feels even more poignant, and our team at CVS Falkirk wanted to highlight different ways you can get involved. Challenge Poverty Week (CPW) 2020 takes place Monday 5th October – Sunday 11th October, and is an opportunity for individuals and organisations to raise their voice against poverty and unite with others in calling for a more just and equal Scotland.
Fundraising is #NeverMoreNeeded
The Scottish Council for Voluntary Services (SCVO) is exploring how the third sector is responding to COVID-19 through the Never More Needed campaign. They are especially keen to hear about organisations and groups using different methods to fundraise throughout lockdown, as well as those who have just begun fundraising again, and their experiences.
Community and Third Sector Recovery Programme: Open for Applications
Scottish Government’s Community and Third Sector Recovery Programme funding stream is now open, offering both organisational support and funding to deliver services. The Community and Third Sector Recovery Programme aims to support charities, community groups, social enterprises and voluntary organisations that are supporting people and communities through the shift from lockdown to recovery. The programme has two strands: the Adapt and Thrive programme (running until March 2021), and the Communities Recovery Fund.
