Falkirk and Clackmannanshire Carers Centre’s “Care with Confidence” Falkirk sessions return on Tuesday 26th January, with “Dentistry and Dementia”. Sessions take place via Zoom, 10:30am – 12pm. All carers are welcome, and sessions are free.

SFAD “Ask the Family” Services Survey
Scottish Families Affected by Alcohol and Drugs (SFAD) is working with Scottish Government and other partner organisations to understand more about people’s experiences of using family support services, with an online “Ask the Family” survey. They ask that anyone aged 16 years old and over in Scotland, who is affected by alcohol or drug use (their own, or someone else’s), and who is being supported by family support services completes the survey.
“Reducing Women’s Health Inequalities” Online Event
Holyrood Events, sponsored by British Heart Foundation Scotland, is holding an online event, “Reducing Women’s Health Inequalities” on Thursday 4th February, 10am – 3pm. Attendees will hear about the information, support and treatment options available to women in Scotland, and have the opportunity to discuss how they can be improved. The event is free for groups and organisations from the third and public sectors, but there is a cost of £72.50 + VAT for attendees from the private sector.
Time to Talk Day 2021
Time to Talk Day 2021 takes place across the UK and Ireland on Thursday 4th February. Time to Talk Day is an annual event which aims to help people throughout the country talking about mental health; this year, the theme is “The Power Of Small”. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the normal physical events will not be possible; as a result, SeeMe Scotland has organised a number of virtual events on the day
“Ask, Tell: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention” Workshops
NHS Forth Valley has organised 4 sets of online “Ask, Tell: Mental Health and Suicide Prevention” workshops, taking place via Microsoft Teams, with the first workshop on Monday 25th January, 11am – 12pm. The workshops cover mental wellbeing, suicide prevention, and having compassionate conversations with people who are experiencing mental distress, or who may feel suicidal. It is recommended that participants attend all 3 workshops in each set. Places are limited to 12 per set, and booking is essential.
COVID-19 Vaccine Scams
Anti-fraud authorities across the UK have reported an increase in people attempting to use the COVID-19 vaccine to target the public and convince them to hand over cash or financial details. Scammers are sending seemingly official text messages to people, which say that they are eligible for the vaccine, or phoning people directly, where the scammers pretend to be from the NHS, or local pharmacies. The NHS will NEVER ask for payment – the vaccine is free.
Falkirk and District Community Conversations
Falkirk Council needs the knowledge and insight of local communities to help them better understand how their buildings – and the services provided in them – can meet your needs, now and in the future. To help do that, Community Conversations have been organised to ensure they hear voices from across the Falkirk Council area, beginning on Monday 1st February, with the first Grangemouth event.
Volunteer Scotland Disclosure and PVG Online Training Sessions
In January, February and March, Volunteer Scotland is holding regular, short online training courses on all aspects of their Disclosure Services, aiming to provide information the various aspects of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme that attendees may need for their role in their voluntary organisation. These sessions are free for voluntary organisations; however there are charges for non-attendance of booked sessions.
Forth Valley COVID-19 Partnership: Funding Programme Open
The Forth Valley COVID-19 Partnership has launched a new grants programme, distributing funds to support communities and people affected by COVID-19 outside of hospital. The new Community Partnership Grants Programme will distribute £126,000 of local grants, and is open to any registered charity, community interest company (CIC), community or voluntary group with a bank account delivering services in the Forth Valley area. The closing date for Phase One is Monday 1st February.
John Muir Award for Families
Under the Trees CIC is facilitating the John Muir Award for families, to help them stay active and encourage outdoor learning during winter and lockdown. The John Muir Award is an environmental award scheme where people gain a vocational award on completion, which can then be used in a variety of settings. Under the Trees CIC will send out FREE weekly or fortnightly challenges for those taking part as inspiration; schools and groups with classes from Primary 4 and above can also participate.
