Strathcarron Hospice has launched its new Live Your Life team and support line. Anyone living with, or caring for someone, with a life limiting illness across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, can now speak directly to the Live your Life Team, without requiring a professional referral. These experienced nurses, creative arts facilitators, complementary therapists and community-based connectors and volunteers offer practical, clinical and emotional support and advice. Freedom of Mind Community Choir
The Freedom of Mind Community Choir is currently accepting new members. There is no audition, and everyone is welcome. People don’t need to read music, or to have been in a choir before. The choir aims to create a safe, supportive space, and currently meets on Wednesday afternoons, 2:30pm – 4:30pm in Tamfourhill Community Hub, Machrie Court, Tamfourhill, FK1 4SD. The choir operates a “pay what you can afford” system, with members contributing £8 – £20 per calendar month.
Poverty Alliance “Best Start, Bright Future” Webinar
The Poverty Alliance is holding a webinar on “Best Start, Bright Future”, Scottish Government’s Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan, taking place Monday 6th June, 10am – 1pm via Zoom. The webinar explores the commitments included in the plan, and how to make sure they are implemented, along with how those commitments can best deliver practical change in Scottish communities.

Changes to NHS24 COVID-19 Information Helpline
NHS24 has announced a change of hours for their COVID-19 information helpline. From Monday 30th May, the helpline’s operating hours change to 8am – 6pm, Monday – Friday only. There will be no weekend service; this is due to fall in demand as a result of the changes in public-wide testing and staying at home advice. The helpline is still available 8am – 6pm, Monday – Friday to take calls on 0800 028 2816.
Friends and Family Sighted Guiding Online Training
The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association are running their Friends & Family Sighted Guiding online training sessions, taking place via Zoom on Saturday 28th May, 10am – 11:30am, and Tuesday 21st June, 6pm – 7:30pm. The sessions are free to attend and open to everyone, and will discuss sight loss, including some common eye conditions and myths, and learn techniques to guide someone with sight loss safely.

Our team at CVS Falkirk is delighted to announce the nominees of Falkirk’s 2022 Volunteer Awards! Winners will be announced on Wednesday 1st June, the first day of Volunteers’ Week (which runs 1st June – 7th June every year), the same day as our Picnic in the Park! event. Each and every one of our nominees deserves an award – as their nominations show, they do incredible things every day to help people and communities across Falkirk, and we would like to thank them for everything they have done.

Forth Valley SEN: Next Meeting
The next Forth Valley SEN (FVSEN) meeting will take place on Thursday 19th May, 10am – 12pm, via Zoom. We are delighted to confirm that Chris Martin, CEO of Social Enterprise Scotland will be delivering a presentation, and will take questions following the outcome of the Social Enterprise Intermediary Review. There will also be presentations from Dollar Community Development Trust, and the Funding Officer for Stirling and Clackmannanshire at the National Lottery Community Fund Scotland.
Survey on Forth Valley Suicide Prevention Plan
As part of the development of the Forth Valley Suicide and Drugs-Related Deaths (DRD) Prevention Plan, NHS Forth Valley is keen to hear from people on what they would like to see included in this plan, via an online survey. The survey is open to service providers as well as individuals, families and community members affected by suicide. The closing date for responses is Wednesday 6th July.
