The Swire Charitable Trust provides grant funding to support charitable organisations delivering meaningful and lasting benefit to communities across the UK. Funding is intended to support projects which are aligned with the Trust’s aims (including community development, education, environmental initiatives, and support for disadvantaged or vulnerable groups) and with the funding priorities of its core programmes:
- Opportunity (improving life chances and realising potential)
- Environment (connecting people to the environment)
- Heritage (regeneration through restoration)
The Trust prioritises charities working in economically disadvantaged areas, and with people from the most challenged backgrounds.
Funding is available for capital, revenue, and core costs. Unrestricted grants may be offered where work closely aligns with the Trust’s priorities. Recent awards typically range from £2,000 – £50,000; the total amount requested should not exceed 10% of the charity’s most recent annual income.
Applicants must be registered UK charities with appropriate policies, financial controls, and a clear plan for delivery. The Trust expects projects to be realistic, well‑costed, and capable of demonstrating impact. Applications are assessed in line with the Trust’s published guidance, and all successful grants are subject to standard terms and conditions, including monitoring and reporting requirements.
Organisations are strongly encouraged to review the Guidelines for Applying for a Grant, Application FAQs, and the Standard Terms and Conditions before submitting a funding request. These documents provide the Trustees with important information on eligibility, assessment criteria, timescales and applicant responsibilities, and will help ensure applications are complete and compliant.
The Trust’s funding operates on a rolling basis with no deadlines. Applications are considered at regular meetings, with decisions usually made within 2 – 3 months of submission.
