Grants ranging from £500 to £2,750 per tripare available from the Henry Smith Charity (now the Henry Smith Foundation) to support recreational trips or holidays within the UK for groups of disadvantaged or disabled children 13 years old or younger.
The grants are open to schools, youth groups, non-profit organisations, and charities; applications from the 20% most deprived areas in the UK will be given priority. If a group isn’t located in a high-deprivation area but works with children facing significant financial or systemic challenges, this should be explained in the application.
The Foundation wants to help children who experience inequity and/or are disabled to go on fun trips, prioritising fun and new experiences, such as camping, adventure activities, or visits to the seaside. For groups of disabled children, they look at the group’s access needs and the levels of deprivation in the area when assessing the application.
The Henry Smith Foundation do not fund trips to high-cost destinations (eg. theme parks, sporting events), trips outside the UK, trips for children over 13 years old or for families, trips which have already happened or are less than 5 weeks away, or trips with educational, curriculum-based or religious objectives.
The grants can cover up to two-thirds of the total cost of a holiday or trip, lasting from one to 7 days.
Applications must be submitted at least 5 weeks before the scheduled trip or holiday. When applying, organisations will be asked to share information about themselves, the children they support, and the trip they are planning. This includes a clear budget, risk assessment, and safeguarding details. Applicants should also be as specific as possible about why the experience matters, and include information on their community and the value of the trip to the children taking part.
Applications for trips taking place until Sunday 31 August 2025 can be made until Monday 21 July 2025.
