As part of their engagement around the Falkirk Plan, Falkirk Community Planning Partnership is now particularly looking for the views and perspectives of people from ethnic minority communities, especially around the additional and unique issues and challenges they have experienced. They will host an online meeting on Thursday 10th June, 7pm – 9pm, for this purpose.

Applications are now open for the School Age Payment. Eligible parents of children aged 4 and 5 years old are encouraged to apply for the financial support, worth over £250, which can be used for anything needed. The School Age Payment is open to families who receive tax credits or certain benefits, and have a child who was born between Tuesday 1st March 2016 – Tuesday 28th February 2017. The deadline for applications is on Monday 28th February 2022.

Dates have been announced for online community engagement sessions regarding the Grangemouth Flood Prevention Scheme (GFPS), with the first sessions taking place on Tuesday 15th June. There will be 2 online overview sessions of the entire flood protections scheme, taking place on Tuesday 15th June at 1pm, and on Tuesday 22nd June at 5:30pm. There will also be 5 separate community online sessions for people in the Grangemouth, Carron, Carronshore, Wholeflats and Langlees areas.

NHS Forth Valley has arranged new online dates for its free “Let’s Get Cooking!” training and information sessions, covering interactive food preparation, and growing activities for early years, children, and families.  The first sessions take place Tuesday 8th June, 10am – 12pm or 4pm – 6pm.

Stirling Speakers has organised an online Friendly Demonstration Open House, taking place on Monday 7th June, 7pm – 9pm. The open house is designed to help ease people’s nerves about joining a speaking club and attending meetings by showcasing member benefits, with a “meet-the-member” session included. Everyone is welcome, and the open house is free to attend.

A message from the team at CVS Falkirk on Volunteers’ Week: “This year’s Volunteers’ Week has given our staff team an opportunity to pause and reflect on all that has been achieved by volunteers in our local communities over the last year. In a year that will be remembered for the COVID-19 pandemic, we are honoured to have played some part in the Herculean efforts that allowed for our most vulnerable Falkirk residents to stay home and stay safe, without worrying that they would be left without essentials like food or medication. The volunteering and helping activities did more than meeting basic needs, though; the collective community effort was an outpouring of care and concern for our neighbours in their time of need that was felt by all.”

To support organisations and partnerships in preparing for the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) (Incorporation) Scotland Bill (which will soon become law), Children in Scotland has 3 training sessions available: Self e-learning for Practitioners: illustrating the policy context for the incorporation of the UNCRC into Scots law (to be completed in participants’ own time); Online Workshop for Practitioners: Tuesday 13th July, 9:30am – 1pm; Online Workshop for Leaders and Service Managers: Tuesday 27th July, 9:30am – 1pm.
