The MSE Charity offers small grants of £2,000 – £7,500 to organisations delivering activities which improve financial capability and long-term money management behaviours.
The MSE Charity was launched in 2008 by Martin Lewis CBE, founder of the Money Saving Expert website. The charity is dedicated to improving information and education about debt, money and consumer issues in the UK, and support third sector organisations who deliver activities making a lasting impact on how people think, behave and manage their money.
The grant programme is designed to support practical, impactful activities which help people build confidence and resilience in managing their finances. Eligible projects might include budgeting workshops, training in online banking, raising awareness of financial scams, or upskilling staff and volunteers to better support communities.
Most grants awarded are under £5,000. Funding can be used flexibly to cover both project costs and core organisational expenses, including up to 15% for overheads. Organisations can also apply for up to £500 towards essential IT equipment, helping ensure projects are delivered effectively.
Applications are open to UK-registered charities, Community Interest Companies (CICs), credit unions, and social enterprises with an income below £500,000 and less than six months of reserves. Projects must focus on improving financial capability, rather than primarily delivering debt advice or counselling.
The next application window for Stage 1 Outline Proposals opens at 9am on Monday 6 July 2026, closing at 5pm on Monday 13 July 2026.
Due to high demand, only the first 40 applications submitted during this window will be considered. As a result, early preparation is encouraged. For those considering applying, the MSE Charity advises that reviewing the guidance and eligibility quiz, and preparing the proposal in advance will help ensure they are ready to submit when the application window opens.
