Applications for the Take a Break grant opened earlier this week, on Tuesday 13 May 2025.
This year, eligibility has changed to parent carers (including eligible kinship carers) of disabled, and seriously ill children and young people aged 0 – 17 years old.
The aim of this programme is to support unpaid parent carers’ quality of life, health and wellbeing by providing cash grants to help them access a short break. Take a Break grants can be used flexibly, to help meet the interests and circumstances of the carer, including contributing towards activities such as:
- day trips
- a short break away
- an additional carer
- travel costs
- gardening and home entertainment equipment
The programme aims to improve unpaid parent carers’ quality of life, health and wellbeing by supporting them to access a break from the day-to-day routine of caring.
Applications close at 5pm on Monday 30 June 2025.
All applicants will hear from Take a Break with an award decision by Friday 11 July 2025. Applicants may hear from them before this date, as they aim to make grant awards as soon as possible, and Take a Break advises applicants check their junk mail regularly.
