Volunteer Scotland are leading work on Action 42 of the Volunteering Action Plan to develop a national approach to Employer Supported Volunteering (ESV) – an umbrella term for policies that employers use to support employees to participate in volunteering. There are many different types of ESV offers, including: paid or unpaid time off for volunteering, signposting or promoting volunteering, integrating volunteering into learning and development processes, organising volunteering opportunities, and matching employees to volunteering opportunities.
This national approach has been developed by a Volunteering Action Plan group with representatives from the private, public and voluntary sectors and in partnership with the Scottish Government. Ahead of the launch of the National Framework, Volunteer Scotland are running a short survey to find out about current experiences of Employer Supported Volunteering. Through this, they hope to capture the views of all kinds of employees, employers and volunteer involving organisations. This survey will be repeated in 2027 to better understand what impact the framework is having and opportunities for development.
