Scottish Government’s Climate Engagement Fund (CEF) is currently open for applications.
The fund offers £25,000 – £80,000 for projects taking place in Scotland between April 2026 – March 2027. Its purpose is to support organisations acting as “trusted messengers” within their communities, helping people understand the climate emergency, how it relates to their daily lives, and the actions they can take.
Grants should be used to lead engagement initiatives which deliver real impact and legacy in tackling the climate emergency, in regard to one or more of the following:
- reaching all parts of society, including less engaged communities
- influencing those with lifestyles which have higher climate impact
- building knowledge and skills for improved understanding of how climate change is relevant to people’s lives, and of what is being done to tackle and adapt to climate change in Scotland
- supporting people to understand how climate action can have positive impacts on affordability (eg. of heating buildings), jobs, health, wellbeing, and nature
- empowering and enabling people to influence local decision-making regarding climate action and policy, including through using place-based and participative engagement approaches
- helping to maintain and build society-wide consensus for the need for climate action and protection of nature and natural resources
Projects should help people understand how climate change connects to their everyday lives and encourage participation in climate action. Applications are invited for projects to be undertaken April 2026 – March 2027, with a total funding pot of £275,000.
The application closing date is 11:59pm on Sunday 1 March 2026.
