Healthcare Improvement Scotland (previously the Scottish Health Council) is holding their virtual Community Engagement in Primary Care event on Tuesday 10th November.
The event aims to offer opportunities to share examples of good practice, including:
- learning sessions
- networking across community care
- real-life examples of community engagement work
Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear about how community engagement has continued as a result of COVID-19; Healthcare Improvement Scotland is looking for community groups or services to showcase their particular examples on the day.
Stories will be presented in a short video case study format prepared before the event, and a live Q&A session with the volunteers during the event.
An example story:
A Health and Social Care Partnership supports a Diabetes Peer Support Network and has continued to do so during lockdown. By making use of Microsoft Teams, volunteers are able to continue to meet regularly. This has allowed for the continued input of other professionals supporting the group, such as a presentation from a dietician. Peer supporters, a team of volunteers, are able to continue learning from each other and to provide support to their communities.
This example shows how a partnership has continued to support community engagement. It demonstrates the community-lead aspect as the peer supporters are volunteers themselves, engaging with other community members. It also highlights multi-disciplinary support as diabetes is a condition that requires support from a variety of services.
The deadline for potential stories is 5pm on Thursday 20th August.
The full program of the event and an invitation to register (via Eventbrite) will follow in due course.
