In their continuing efforts to provide support and guidance to our clients and their families, Solicitors for Older People Scotland (SOPS) (Forth Valley and West Lothian) has developed new materials designed to support their clients and their Attorneys – which in this instance refers to the person with Power of Attorney for another individual.
SOPS has found that some Attorneys don’t seek any help initially, and as a result, may find that they are inadvertently in breach of their basic obligations, which can have consequences. SOPS advises that it is best to take some simple and straightforward advice about the role at the outset.
SOPS will now provide a simple guide on the basics of being an Attorney, which will provide Attorneys with an understanding of their role and where to begin.
In addition, SOPS will provide a free helpline, where telephone guidance is available, and a Power of Attorney Record Book, where Attorneys can record activity, and (more importantly) keep a record of all financial transactions they undertake as an Attorney. Samples of these can be provided for interested parties.
For further information, or to request a sample Record Book, please contact SOPS by email: info@sops.org.uk
