Scottish Government has launched “Bringing Hope, Building Futures: Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan 2026–2031”, setting out the next stage of national action to reduce child poverty, and meet statutory targets to significantly lower poverty levels, by 2030.
The plan focuses on increasing family incomes, improving access to employment, reducing the cost of living, and providing practical support to families. It highlights that tackling child poverty requires collaboration across government, local authorities, health services, and the third sector.
“Third sector organisations play a vital role in this work, offering community-based services, welfare advice, and family support. Groups and organisations working in the third sector are often able to reach families who may not engage with statutory services and can provide flexible, personalised support in their communities.”
The delivery plan creates opportunities for third sector organisations to work in partnership with public services, deliver local initiatives, and support preventative approaches. Key areas include whole-family support, income maximisation, employability, childcare, and wellbeing services.
The plan reinforces the importance of early intervention and the role of local organisations in making sure families get the help they need, when they need it.
