Young people across Scotland are invited to help shape national LGBTQ+ research through a new opportunity with LGBT Youth Scotland.
Young people across Scotland are being encouraged to apply for an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of national LGBTQ+ research.
LGBT Youth Scotland is recruiting members for its Young People’s Steering Group (YPSG), which will co-design the Life in Scotland 2026 – 2027 research project. The initiative aims to better understand the experiences, needs and priorities of LGBTQ+ young people across the country.
The Steering Group will play a central role in shaping the research from the ground up. Members will work collaboratively to design a nationwide survey, analyse findings, and develop recommendations which will help inform policy, services and support for LGBTQ+ communities.
The opportunity is open to young people aged 13 – 25 years old who are LGBTQ+, or questioning their sexual orientation or gender identity, and currently living in Scotland.
Running May 2026 – May 2027, the project will involve up to 10 optional sessions across the year. Sessions will be a mix of online, in-person and hybrid formats, typically lasting between one and three hours, with breaks and refreshments provided.
Participants will receive training and support throughout, with opportunities to build skills in social research, leadership and influencing. Travel expenses and refreshments will be covered, and participants will be recognised for their time and contribution.
LGBT Youth Scotland is committed to ensuring that voices often least heard are centred in this work, with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion. Anyone interested in discussing the opportunity or learning more about the organisation’s intersectional approach is encouraged to get in touch with CEO Mhairi Crawford by email: mhairi.crawford@lgbtyouth.org.uk
“As peer researchers, participants will ensure that lived experience is at the heart of the project.”
The deadline for applications to get involved is 9am on Monday 11 May 2026.
