Originally known as the Winter Pressures Project, “Home from Hospital” is a partnership between a number of local organisations, who have come together to provide a service allowing people who have had a stay in Forth Valley Royal Infirmary to get home swiftly, safely and with the support they need.
The kindness of local volunteers is a key part of the service, and there are current opportunities to join the Royal Voluntary Service (RVS), Strathcarron Hospice and Food Train volunteer teams who continue to support people to return to their own homes, where they get help to maintain their independence and live a good life in their own community.
To find out more about which volunteering role would be the best fit for you, talk more with staff and volunteers from the Home From Hospital project, and to access help to complete and submit a volunteer application, people are invited to join the project at the Forth Valley Sensory Centre (FVSC), Redbrae Road, Camelon, FK1 4DD on Tuesday 27th September, 2pm – 7pm.
This is a drop-in event; you do not need to stay for the full event, and refreshments will be provided.
Parking is available outside the FVSC; the centre is a very short walk from Camelon train station, and has a bus stop both outside, and across the street in front of the Sheriff Court, where regular services run to and from communities across the Falkirk area.
As a volunteer with this project, you could help with a variety of tasks, including:
- providing company and companionship to an older person whilst they continue their recovery at home
- helping with practical tasks such as collecting and dropping off medication and prescriptions
- supporting someone to go to the local shop, so they can build confidence getting out and about in their community again
- supporting an older person to go along to a community activity they will enjoy
In return, you will have your travel or other volunteer expenses reimbursed, receive a range of training development opportunities, and of course the satisfaction of making a difference as you meet new people in the community.
There is no need to book, and you can come along to the session at a time that suits you; however, if you have any questions about accessing the event, please contact Sarah Murray at Royal Voluntary Service by email: sarah.murray@royalvoluntaryservice.org.uk
If you would like to volunteer to help with the Home From Hospital project, but can’t make it to this event, we can send you the information you need to get involved at any time – contact Eve Winters by email: eve.winters@cvsfalkirk.org.uk
