As part of Falkirk’s SHOP 26 event, and ahead of the UN’s COP26 conference in Glasgow, Falkirk Sewing Studio is looking for donations of used jeans to make fabric bags for life.
Jeans can be donated at any time; the Studio is open Monday – Saturday, 9am – 5pm in the Callendar Square Shopping Centre, High Street, Falkirk, FK1 1UJ, and there is a drop-off box outside the studio outwith these times.
The jeans will be made into bags for life during drop-in sewing workshops, which run every day (except Sunday) 10am – 3pm at the studio, until Sunday 7th November. People can attend the workshops and participate, with no experience or booking necessary.
Each workshop is divided into two:
- 10am – 12pm: cutting
- 1pm – 3pm: sewing
Drinks and snacks will be provided. The bags will be sold for £2.50 at the Green Market, in the studio itself, and via the studio’s online shop, with 50% of proceeds donated to Outside the Box.
One of our local social enterprises, Falkirk Sewing Studio is working in partnership on the project with Falkirk Delivers, along with other local businesses – including other social enterprises – groups, organisations and charities.
The project is designed to help local people learn sewing skills, as well as how to upcycle and reuse material, along with helping reduce waste and raise awareness of the impact of climate change. It also aims to help people network, build their social contacts, and end social isolation.
