As we mark Challenge Poverty Week 2025, CVS Falkirk & District add our voice to the conversation by showcasing the ways our local communities are working together to tackle poverty across Falkirk District. Using the Poverty Alliance themes as a framework, we aim to share access to resources and highlight projects supporting us all to experience a better standard of living. Whilst not an exhaustive list, we hope this represents the variety of support available within our local communities.
The CVS Falkirk & District Members Directory offers a direct link to the local groups and organisations, who are members of CVS Falkirk & District, advertising their services and the support they provide to the district’s diverse communities. With the theme of supporting and developing Social Security locally, we hope this resource is a valuable insight into the offerings available locally to support individuals and businesses alike to combat issues caused by poverty.
Through cycle repairs, training and outreach, Recyke-a-bike demonstrate the transformative power of cycling, creating and developing opportunities which in turn work to relieve poverty, improve health, promote education and protect the local environment. With a focus on investing in life’s essentials such as good transport and a thriving environment, this theme offers a chance to highlight cycling as a sustainable way of travelling accessible to everyone.
As a registered charity, they are not only dedicated to recycling bikes but to bringing cycling into everyone’s lives, regardless of their background or means, as “owning a bike means empowerment, freedom, and a healthier, more sustainable lifestyle – and we’re thrilled to support that journey in our community”. Prioritising accessibility, their shop is filled with quality, modestly priced bikes, and they run projects that make cycling more inclusive – covering everything from Bikeability training in primary schools and disability cycling sessions to free bike projects and InspiRide – which encourages participants towards positive destinations via our supportive training and employability course.

Limerigg Action Group is a driven and inspiring volunteer-led organisation who embody the theme of investment within our communities, focusing on developing the local Village Hall to become a hub of the community and in turn, combat social isolation and improve community wellbeing. By creating a space that local groups and individuals can utilise, they are working to make the hall the centre of village activities through the facilitation of activities for all age groups, and in doing so, encourage local people to volunteer and get involved in projects that interest them and benefit the wider community.

Within this focus on climate justice, we are keen to highlight local social enterprise, Sustainable Thinking Scotland, who support their community to champion the natural environment through example and by creating opportunities for education and connection. Their team works hard to improve living conditions in our society by employing sustainable, environmental practices such as growing food for foodbanks, and turning organic biomass into biochar which improves soil health and reduces carbon emissions. To further support the local area, they host a variety of community wellbeing projects which help spread their knowledge and passion for environmental consciousness whilst tackling local issues of isolation.
These projects focus on bringing individuals together around a shared interest, for an hour of mindful activity allowing attendees to relax and discover new ways to connect with others and themselves. Recent sessions include Crafts Group, ASN Family Group, Games Group, Expressive Group, Book Club, Gardening Club, and Photography Group – all are welcome to attend sessions, and can find out more by contacting the team on social media or emailing: danielle@sustainablethinking.scot
