Money Advice Scotland’s next Ask the Expert session will be delivered in partnership with Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH), marking Mental Health Awareness Week 2026.
Taking place online on Tuesday 12 May 2026, 2pm – 3pm, the session will explore the relationship between financial and mental wellbeing, highlighting how money worries can impact mental health, and sharing practical tips and support to help people feel more in control.
Mental Health Awareness Week is a week-long campaign in the UK, organised by the Mental Health Foundation, which takes place every year in May. This year it takes place Monday 11 May 2026 – Sunday 17 May 2026. It is designed to highlight the importance of good mental health, challenge stigma and promote practical actions people can take to support their own wellbeing.
Further information is available via the Mental Health Foundation website (linked for your convenience).
The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness week is “Action”, and Money Advice Scotland is encouraging participants to explore how they can be more action orientated in starting conversations around mental health.
This session aims to support participants in:
- understanding and defining mental health and wellbeing
- exploring the impact of stigma and using compassionate language to facilitate conversation
- identifying key considerations when supporting someone in distress
- recognising the vicarious impact of supporting others and the necessity of boundaries
Facilitators will also explore practical tips participants can take if money worries are affecting their mental health.
Please note that the slides from this session will not be shared, but key information will be covered during the session.
