A new online event from the Scottish Health Equity Research Unit (SHERU), “Young Adult Men and the Drivers of Health Inequalities”, will explore the factors shaping health outcomes for young men across the UK.
Taking place on Thursday 19 March 2026, 3pm – 4pm, the session will examine how socioeconomic conditions, healthcare access, social support, and lifestyle contribute to disparities in physical and mental health.
Research has shown that young adult men are disproportionately affected by health inequalities, experiencing higher rates of premature mortality, mental health challenges, and barriers to accessing services compared with other demographic groups. This session aims to provide a platform to share evidence, discuss emerging research, and identify practical strategies for improving wellbeing and promoting equity in health services.
Attendees will hear evidence, discuss research, and explore strategies to improve wellbeing, with insights into how multi-agency collaboration, policy interventions, and community engagement can help reduce these disparities.
The event is aimed at public health professionals, policymakers, and community practitioners, and anyone interested in understanding and addressing health inequalities affecting young men. By highlighting the drivers of inequality, organisers hope to inform better decision-making, inspire action, and ultimately support healthier outcomes for young adult men across communities.
