CVS Falkirk & District are pleased to announce their renewed partnership with the Falkirk District Older People’s Network!
Formed in 2018, the Falkirk District ‘Older People’s Network’ (OPN) aims to facilitate discussion and debates around issues important to individuals over the age of 50 within the Falkirk District. A space to share knowledge, experience and practices, it also welcomes representatives from older people’s groups to increase and strengthen ties between the individuals and those who support them.
Since then, the Network has been facilitated by an independent team who have worked tirelessly to support our older population across the Falkirk District. Looking to strengthen cross-sector ties, it has now moved back under the remit of CVS Falkirk & District’s Forum and Networks offering, providing connection and community across the third sector.
Reflecting on what the Falkirk District OPN means to its members, network chair, David Paterson has stated:
“Born out of collaboration between local charities, community groups and organisations committed to enhancing life for older adults, the Older People’s Network provides the community with a welcoming space to discuss key issues, discover something new, and form connections.” David added: “Whether you’re interested in accessing critical support services, or meeting others with shared interests, the Older People’s Network welcomes all.”
The importance of facilitating and maintaining spaces such as these go beyond usual networking benefits, with the OPN demonstrating the importance of community for supporting wellbeing. Open to everyone aged over 50 in the Falkirk District and their supporters, it provides access to a network of resources contributing to a better quality of life through enhancing mental wellbeing, improving community connection, and promoting a sense of purpose.
So, whether you are looking to have a voice and be involved with influencing decision-making and public policy; network with peers; access training and take part in consultations; or simply the chance to try something new – the quarterly forum could be the ideal place for you.
