The Better Breaks programme is now open for applications for 2025-2026.
Better Breaks provides 12 month grants to third sector organisations to develop and deliver short breaks projects and services for disabled children and young people (aged 20 and under), and their carers (adult carers and/or young carers). Grants are for one year, with a total of around £1.2million available. Short breaks projects and activities can include breaks away (including overnight stays and residential breaks), days out, and/or shorter sessions (including regular activities). To be eligible for Better Breaks funding, projects must be able to evidence how their activities will benefit both disabled children and young people and their carers, by providing a break from their normal routine.
Better Breaks is a funding programme of the Short Breaks Fund, operated by Shared Care Scotland on behalf of the National Carers Organisations and the Scottish Government. The purpose of the Short Breaks Fund is to increase the range, availability, and choice of short breaks for unpaid carers and those they care for across Scotland.
This funding is for third sector (voluntary organisations) operating in Scotland. You do not have to be a registered charity to apply. However, your organisation must have a constitution that states your organisation’s purposes are solely charitable and that it delivers public benefit in achieving its purpose(s). For full details including eligibility criteria and guidance visit the webpage.
To apply online, visit the Better Breaks website to download and read the guidance for applicants. Applications must be submitted with attachments by 5pm on Monday 11 November 2024 (late or incomplete applications will NOT be accepted).
