Firstport’s Social Innovation Challenge (SIC) is a grant funding and support programme designed to identify new ideas addressing key social and environmental challenges in Scotland.
The programme is open to individuals and organisations with proposals for social enterprise projects which can deliver long‑term, positive impact, including social enterprises, unincorporated groups, and community associations. Firstport defines social innovation as:
“Finding new ways to tackle social or environmental problems, including through new products, services, business models, or novel ways of using an existing approach.”
The overall winner will receive £30,000, along with tailored support to develop and deliver their idea. Two additional finalists will each receive £10,000, plus further support and signposting opportunities. Funding can support start‑up and development costs, including research, staffing and essential equipment.
Applications are invited for projects addressing one of four themes: eradicating child poverty; growing the economy through inclusive employment; tackling the climate emergency; supporting sustainable public services.
To apply, individuals must first submit an Expression of Interest via the Firstport Community Portal; this initial step provides access to application materials and guidance. Expressions of Interest close on Monday 20 July 2026, with the deadline for full applications at 1pm on Friday 28 August 2026.
