Falkirk’s Health Improvement Service has announced new training dates for the Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) course, taking place 9:30 am – 4:30pm on Tuesday 5th March and Wednesday 6th March.
The 2 day course is open to any staff and volunteers who live or work in the Falkirk District who want to help someone with mental health problems, whether in a professional or personal capacity. The training aims to provide the knowledge and skills required to give help to someone experiencing a mental health problem before appropriate or professional help is accessed.
The learning outcomes of this training include:
- how to apply the 5 steps of SMHFA
- how to respond if you believe someone is at risk of suicide
- how to give immediate help until appropriate or professional help is available
- what to do in a crisis
- the importance of good listening skills, practice listening and responding
- understand recovery from mental health problems
- to learn about common mental health problems
