PREVENT is a UK Government initiative designed to support people of any age who may be vulnerable to radicalisation, or at risk of being drawn into terrorism. The programme forms part of wider safeguarding responsibilities and aims to help staff recognise concerns early and access the right support.
The online sessions aim to provide a clear and practical introduction to the Prevent Duty and its link to everyday safeguarding practice. They are designed to increase understanding, build confidence in identifying vulnerabilities and early indicators, and explain how to respond safely, proportionately and appropriately.
The sessions will be delivered by Abi Kyle, Home Office Prevent Advisor for Scotland, and will include dedicated time for questions and discussion. Topics covered will include:
- understanding the Prevent Duty in practice
- recognising vulnerabilities and early warning signs
- knowing what action to take and who to speak to
- responding appropriately when concerns arise
Sessions are suitable for anyone working with children, people, families or adults across education, health, social care, sports, leisure, and in the third sector.
