Scottish Government has made £350,000 available nationally for projects aimed at increasing the uptake of cancer screening programmes in those experiencing deprivation and health inequalities. They are now inviting proposal submissions. Proposal should be ready to start by the end of this calendar year, and should be expected to complete by April 2021. The deadline for applications is Thursday 5th November.

Community Engagement in Primary Care Event
Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) is holding a Scotland-wide online drop-in event on Tuesday 10th November, 9am – 3pm, around learning from each other’s experiences of Community Engagement in Primary Care. The event is open to anyone working in or supporting primary care, and will be held on Microsoft Teams. Places are free, but limited, and early booking is encouraged.
Mental Health Recovery in Scotland Survey
The Scottish Recovery Network is working towards a refreshed vision and strategy for mental health recovery in Scotland, and has launched a short online survey on to gather people’s views. Survey responses will guide work on the strategy. They are keen to hear from as many people as possible; the survey is open to everyone throughout October, and closes at the end of the month.
Falkirk Area Libraries Reopening
Falkirk’s libraries are reopening over the next month, moving into Stage 2 of their phased approach. Falkirk Library has already reopened, with the others to follow. Grangemouth reopens for Stage 2 next Monday 19th October.
Queen’s 2020 Birthday Honours: Local Residents Recognised
A number of local residents have been recognised in the Queen’s 2020 Birthday Honours, including: Margaret Robertson MBE of the Shetland Fiddlers, Margaret Coutts BEM, for her time with Falkirk and Central Scotland Samaritans and our local communities, Ghulam Farid BEM and Shagufta Shamim BEM, for their work and support in Grangemouth during COVID-19, and Marlyn Gardner BEM at NHS Forth Valley, for her work supporting local communities during COVID-19.
