NHS Forth Valley have released new dates in their training calendar for 3 courses supporting mental health improvement, and the prevention of self harm and suicide:
- Ask Tell Respond (page 10 of the brochure)
- aimed at anyone working or volunteering across the Falkirk area, to increase awareness of mental health and wellbeing, and be able to respond to someone who is experiencing mental distress, mental ill-health and who might be at risk of self harm or suicide. The workshops are ideally suited to people who have no previous training in mental health and suicide prevention, and those who wish to refresh prior knowledge
- running in November 2023 and February 2024
- Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid (SMHFA) (page 11)
- aimed at staff and volunteers who live or work in the Falkirk District area who want to help someone with mental health problems (whether in a professional or personal capacity); this course aims to provide the knowledge and skills required to give help to someone experiencing a mental health problem before appropriate or professional help is accessed
- running in November 2023 and January 2024
- 2 newly commissioned Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) programmes (page 12)
- ASIST training is aimed at people working in the community, voluntary or statutory sectors in contact with individuals at risk of suicide. The course is open to individuals living or working in the Falkirk District only, and enables ASIST participants to learn the skills to provide a suicide first aid intervention and work with someone to develop a personalised safety plan to keep them safe-for-now, and connect with further help
- running in February 2024
Each course has limited availability; courses delivered by or on behalf of Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) are available to people living, working or volunteering within the Falkirk District area.
