As many will be aware, The Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020 comes into force from April 2025.
In order to help charities and third sector groups understand the changes and what this means for them. The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations (SCVO), Volunteer Scotland and Disclosure Scotland are holding an online session “New laws on disclosure and safeguarding: make sure you’re ready” at 2pm on Wednesday 4th December 2024.
This session will discuss the key changes and what they might mean for groups, including:
- the introduction of simplified disclosure products and people having more control over their information
- an individualised approach to the disclosure of childhood offending and rights of review for convictions disclosed, to enhance fairness and proportionality
- replacing the concept of ’regulated work’ with ’regulated roles’, making it more easily understood
- the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme becoming mandatory for those carrying out regulated roles with children and protected adults
- the ability for Disclosure Scotland to impose conditions on PVG scheme members who are under consideration for listing
The session is relevant to anyone in the third sector, including those responsible for appointing new employees or volunteers, charity boards, and people who would like to apply for volunteering or employed roles. Attendees will have a chance to ask questions and find out where to get support.
