Public Health Scotland has launched the Mentally Flourishing Workplaces (MFW) Framework, a free resource to help organisations of any size or sector create and support a mentally flourishing workplace for all employees.
Developed by Public Health Scotland in collaboration with a range of Scottish organisations, the framework offers practical, real-world guidance tailored to each workplace’s needs and experiences. This co-production approach was adopted to ensure that MFW is built on shared knowledge and practical guidance.
It encourages small, meaningful steps towards proactive mental health support, and is designed for continuous improvement, allowing organisations to implement changes at a pace that suits them and their team. MFW has a series of dimensions with recommended approaches, not requirements, to help organisations tailor their own journey, to focus on the human side of mental health and wellbeing, and build from there.
MFW supports organisations in:
- shaping wellbeing strategies
- setting priorities and objectives
- taking a proactive and preventative approach to mental health
The Framework has no fixed endpoint, as a commitment to making steady, meaningful progress and impact.
In addition, the MFW Framework and accompanying Implementation Guide provide recommended strategies, priorities, and ongoing improvement tools.
The process:
- download the MFW Framework (linked for your convenience)
- secure commitment from your organisation to utilise the MFW in your workplace
- access a copy of the MFW Implementation Guide: with practical guidance on how to address each dimension, the guide provides step by step advice to help you along the way
- request the MFW Implementation Guide by e-mail: MentallyFlourishingWork@phs.scot
- keep in touch with the Public Health Scotland team at the address, to help them follow your progress and further develop the framework
