The LNER Customer and Community Investment Fund (CCIF) provides funding for projects which strengthen communities and improve wellbeing along the LNER network.
Grants of £1,000 – £10,000 are available to eligible organisations based within 15 miles of the LNER route in Scotland and England. Applications are welcomed from registered charities, community groups, Community Interest Companies (CICs), co-operative societies, schools, Community Rail Partnerships and other eligible organisations. LNER prefers to support small and medium sized organisations with incomes of £10,000 – £1 million.
Projects must align with one of three funding priorities:
- Better for People: supporting equality, inclusion, social mobility and positive mental health
- Better for Places: helping communities build skills, improve employability and increase educational opportunities
- Better for Planet: supporting biodiversity, sustainable travel and waste reduction initiatives
Projects must be completed within one financial year (April – March), and funding can contribute to project delivery costs, including staff costs directly related to the project (not exceeding 25% of the amount requested). Core organisational costs and major capital works are not eligible. Additionally, LNER prefers to be the sole funder on projects, or one of only two funders. Applications for projects with more than two funders will not be accepted.
Since 2018, the fund has supported a wide range of initiatives focused on community development, inclusion, environmental sustainability, education and employability. Through this funding, communities have been able to reduce isolation and access essential skills and resources, helping people feel more connected, resilient and supported. Previously successful applications have included projects focusing on mental health, environmental sustainability, equality, diversity and inclusion, and education and employability.
The deadline for applications is 11:59pm on Monday 31 August 2026.
