Linking Lives has launched its new befriending resource, designed to empower local communities (including churches, charities, and organisations) to establish their own befriending schemes tailored to its unique needs.
“One-to-one befriending offers a profound way to combat loneliness. A simple weekly chat over a cup of tea can make a significant difference.”
Thanks to Linking Lives’ funders, the resource is available for only £300 for the first year, which includes training for the coordinator and volunteers, all necessary paperwork templates, and access to ongoing training and support, amongst others.
The Linking Lives befriending models include:
- Home Visiting: in-person visits to build meaningful connections
- Telephone Befriending: regular phone calls to offer companionship
- Hybrid Model: a combination of both telephone and home visits
“Why befriending? It offers meaningful connection and reminds someone they matter. It helps build ties with the wider community. It’s simple, yet powerful. It benefits everyone involved. It brings hope and a brighter outlook on life.”
What’s Involved in Setting Up a Linking Lives Befriending Scheme?
Linking Lives supports communities through the process step by step:

- raise funds for a paid Coordinator
- appoint and train a Coordinator
- safely recruit, vet and train volunteers
- identify people to befriend
- pair volunteers with those befriended
- provide ongoing support and monitoring
