Falkirk Council is carrying out a Call for Ideas and Sites to inform the preparation of the new Falkirk Local Development Plan 3 (LDP3), with the deadline for responses being Friday 2 May 2025.
The new plan will set out a spatial strategy, policies and site-specific proposals indicating:
- where and how future development, such as new homes, community facilities, retail or business development, should or should not take place in our area
- what infrastructure is needed to support growth
- how environment and greenspaces can be improved
LDP3 will become part of the statutory development plan for the area on its adoption, and will be used alongside Scotland’s National Planning Framework (currently NPF4) to decide future planning applications for development. The plan will replace the current Falkirk Local Development Plan 2 and cover a 10 year period, 2028 – 2038.
Call for Ideas
The Call for Ideas is an opportunity for individuals, community groups and other Falkirk District organisations to suggest new uses, improvements, or protection for sites or vacant buildings in their locality. These will be considered by the Council in preparing the LDP3 Proposed Plan.
Idea can be submitted by completing a short online survey on the Council’s consultation hub, Participate Plus.
Call for Sites
Through the Call for Sites, the Council is inviting developers, landowners and agents to put forward sites they would like to be considered for future allocation in LDP3. Sites for housing, employment, retail, leisure, tourism, community infrastructure and other types of development can be submitted.
Falkirk Council is also encouraging submissions for sites which may be already allocated in the current Local Development Plan (LDP2), but are stalled and have not made any significant progress towards delivery.
Submissions to the Call for Sites must be made on the appropriate form, which can be downloaded from the LDP Participate+ page (at the bottom of the page).
