Community Food and Health (Scotland) is hosting its next interactive Community Food Peer Session on Wednesday 13 May 2026, 1pm – 2pm, focusing on how community food work can support and contribute to healthier, stronger, more resilient communities.
“Community food initiatives play a vital preventative role by helping people build social connections, develop skills, link to other services, and avoid reaching a crisis point. As pressure on communities continues to rise, the preventative role played by local food projects has never been as important.
“Prevention is a central theme in both the Population Health Framework and Public Health Scotland’s 10 year strategy Together We Can, which call for a shift towards early action and supporting people long before they reach crisis.”
By offering a practical and reflective space, this online session will explore what this can look like in community food settings, and how this work can be demonstrated and evaluated in practice. The session will begin with a short introductory presentation, to set the scene and share key concepts.
Participants will then take part in facilitated breakout discussions, creating space to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and explore ideas with peers from across the sector. The session will conclude with facilitator reflections and a wider group discussion, helping to draw out shared learning and practical insights.
This event is aimed at anyone involved in community food activity, interested in learning from others, and looking to strengthen local approaches.
