Applications are now open for Scottish Government’s Changing Places Toilets Scotland Fund, which will provide £10 million over 2 years to increase the number of fully accessible toilet facilities across the country.
Changing Places Toilets are larger, specialist facilities designed for disabled people who require additional space, carer support, and equipment to meet their personal care needs with dignity, something which standard accessible toilets often do not provide. The provision of such facilities is recognised as a fundamental human right.
There are currently 9 Changing Places Toilets across Falkirk District (with 8 registered on the Changing Places map), after 2 new Changing Places bathrooms were unveiled in Falkirk, at Callendar Park and Falkirk Stadium.
Non-profits and small businesses can apply for project cost funding, including up to £10,000 for development costs. The fund prioritises areas with little or no existing provision.
“This fund marks a vital step toward improving inclusion and upholding the dignity of disabled people across Scotland.”
Scottish Government, in partnership with Inspiring Scotland and with expert support from PAMIS (Promoting A More Inclusive Society), is delivering the fund as part of its ongoing commitment to improving accessibility across Scotland. The fund will be managed by Inspiring Scotland, and aims to expand the network of Changing Places Toilets, ensuring more communities across Scotland are accessible to people with complex care needs.
PAMIS, a co-founder of the UK Changing Places Toilet Consortium, will provide technical advice and review all plans to ensure any funded projects meet the required standards. PAMIS will review all drawings and plans, to ensure that the proposed facilities will be fit for purpose, before build funds are released.
