Scottish Government’s Bright Start Breakfasts Fund closes for new applications at 12pm on Monday 2nd June 2025.
The fund aims to expand breakfast clubs in primary and Additional Support for Learning schools, focusing on children from low-income families, and supports both new and existing clubs, aiming for national reach.
The Bright Start Breakfasts fund will run from August 2025 to June 2026 (the full academic year). Grants are expected to be between £8,000 – £12,000, depending on the location and needs of the community and school. The fund is open to a wide range of applicants including primary schools, special schools, Local Authorities, third sector organisations, registered childcare providers, and activity providers.
This initiative forms part of Scottish Government’s ongoing efforts to combat child poverty, and ease the burden of the cost of living for families across the country.
Falkirk District: Call to Action
Inspiring Scotland, who manages the fund, is particularly keen to receive applications from areas like Falkirk District, where no applications have yet been submitted. Geographic diversity will be a key factor during the funding assessment process, so organisations in underserved regions are strongly encouraged to apply.
What the Fund Supports
Bright Start Breakfasts is designed to:
- create new breakfast clubs for eligible children
- expand existing breakfast club services
- prioritise support for children from low-income households
- ensure provision is available across all areas of Scotland, including regions currently underrepresented, such as Falkirk District
“Breakfast clubs provide more than just a morning meal—they help ensure children are well-nourished and ready to learn, while also offering essential childcare for working parents.”
