Adult K Learning Review: What Should Children & Families’ Services Consider for Their Practice?
Falkirk Council’s Child and Adult Multi Agency Services team has arranged a Multi-Agency Learning Session, designed to inform services of the learning recommendations from the Adult K Learning Review, and for services to consider how this can influence their practice.
Taking place in person, those interested in attending can choose from the following dates at Grangemouth Municipal Chambers (Room 10), Bo’ness Road, Grangemouth, FK3 8AY:
- Tuesday 28 April 2026, 9:30am – 1pm
- Thursday 18 June 2026, 1pm – 4:30pm
Background
Via Falkirk Council:
“Having experienced significant physical and psychological harm, Adult K died suddenly at home in their 60s, over 10 years short of the average Scottish life expectancy for their sex. At the time of death, Adult K was an adult at risk of harm under Adult Support and Protection procedures.
“The Adult K Learning Review identified that the management of the case, the use of legislation, the way professionals worked together and understood each other’s roles contributed to a delay in providing timely support and protection.”
Core Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, participants should:
- Harm Identification: Improve their early identification of risk, particularly related to self-neglect and untreated health needs, including greater input from health services and better information sharing.
- Risk Assessment: Improve their oversight of Adult Support and Protection, and Child Protection, casework and use of tools (eg. chronologies) to support timely and safe decision-making.
- Trauma-Informed Practice: Consider how to embed structured briefings and debriefings in their practices, ensure access to management support, and promote assessments which account for the impact of trauma and coercive control
