World Hepatitis Day (WHD) 2023 takes place next Friday 28th July; as part of their commemorations, the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) has organised interactive webinars taking place throughout the week:
- World Hepatitis Day 2023: Community Forum, Tuesday 25th July from 1pm, via Zoom:
The WHD Community Forum aims to give insight into many of the experiences, perspectives and unmet needs of people diagnosed with and living with hepatitis across the world. The session will be chaired by the WHA president, Danjuma Adda.
The panel (which consists of people with lived experience) will explore global conversations around eliminating hepatitis by 2030 and this year’s theme of “#NotWaiting for hepatitis elimination”. Members include:

- Aftab Ahmad, President, National Academy of Young Scientists (Pakistan)

- “We’re Not Waiting – Beating Hepatitis and Cancer Together”, Thursday 27th July from 1pm, via Zoom:
Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an oncogenic virus that causes liver cancer at the same rate as someone who actively smokes one pack of cigarettes per day. However, many HBV patients often wait for treatment until they develop liver disease.
This panel discussion and Q&A – chaired by Cary James, CEO of World Hepatitis Alliance – will focus on the integration of the hepatitis community and hepatitis services with liver cancer and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The panel will feature:
