World Suicide Prevention Day 2024 took place this week on Tuesday 10 September 2024 and we, alongside partners across the third sector and Falkirk Health and Social Care Partnership, wish to show our support for the campaign.
The theme of this year’s campaign was “Changing the Narrative on Suicide in Scotland” – a very appropriate message since the Samaritans’ recently found that only 45% of people are comfortable talking about suicidal thoughts. This needs to change.
With messages around “Struggling right now? Talk” and “Worried about someone? Ask” – this campaign looks to prioritise support and awareness whilst destigmatising conversations around low mental health. To support this work, Samaritans have published their top tips for how you can help make a change.
We encourage anyone struggling – or if you know anyone struggling – with suicidal thoughts to reach out for support. The following organisations are just some of those who provide support for anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts:
- In an emergency, call 999
- Speak to your GP or call NHS24 at 111
- Samaritans – call or text: 116 123
