Since 2013, events agency Massive have published the Massive Top 25 report, which showcases the most successful charity-owned mass participation events in the UK.
This year’s report reveals a decline in the number of virtual events making this year’s rankings, with only 3 making it into the report – the lowest number since 2019. In contrast, the top 9 fundraising positions are all in-person events, signalling a change in supporter preferences.
The report also highlighted positive signs for the events fundraising market, with average fundraising rising, and entry levels increasing for the majority of events based around walking, trekking or cycling.
Several established in-person events delivered significant growth, including the Scottish Kiltwalk event, which grew 36% with £7 million raised.
The three fastest growing events were:
- Prostate Cancer UK – Run the Month: 143% increase
- Restless Development – The Knight Frank Schools Triathlon: 41% increase
- The Kiltwalk in Scotland: 36% increase
For the third consecutive year, the rankings of the top 4 events remained unchanged:
- Race for Life
- Macmillan Coffee Morning
- Movember
- Mighty Hikes
