Strathcarron Hospice is encouraging local groups and organisations to talk about bereavement or plan an event around the topic for ‘To Absent Friends’ Week.
Taking place from 1-7 November, ‘To Absent Friends’ week is an opportunity to remember, to tell stories, to celebrate and to reminisce about people we love who have died. It is an opportunity to revive lost traditions and create new ones.
Last week the Hospice welcomed some community group representatives to have a discussion around how those bereaved in our local areas can be supported. The groups, which included Balliefields Community Hub, Cumbernauld Action on Care for the Elderly (CACE), Alloa Resonate Together, Snowdrop Café representatives and the Cumbernauld CAN (Community Anchor Network) shared their plans and ideas for ‘To Absent Friends’. Some of the ideas include holding creative writing opportunities to share loss stories, creating a memorial garden, and community memories artwork including images of those who have died.
If you would like to find out more about resources to host bereavement discussions with your community group or organisation, or for information on funding opportunities to host a ‘To Absent Friends’ event, please contact them by email: david.henderson10@nhs.scot.
