Every year the Social Justice and Social Security Committee looks at what the Scottish Government could consider when developing its budget. This year, the Committee wants to examine how the Scottish Government’s approach to fair and efficient funding can contribute to the continued effectiveness of the third sector. Find out more about the background to this inquiry on the Scottish Parliament‘s website.
Through an online consultation, the Committee wants to hear from:
- third sector organisations
- private sector organisations who fund the third sector
- public sector organisations who fund the third sector
- academics with an understanding of third sector funding
The consultation can be accessed here and closes for views on Friday 16 August 2024.
Funding Officers Network – Wednesday 14 August 2024
At the next CVS Falkirk & District Funding Officers Network meeting, Rob Cope (Chartered Institute of Fundraising) will speak about the challenges, trends and insights currently facing charities, as well as some of the biggest opportunities to weather the storm. Following this, the CVS team will facilitate a consultation response to share your views on the proposed funding processes that the Scottish Parliament may seek to explore.
Anyone from a third sector organisation in Falkirk who works with funding is welcome to come along and share your views. To guide the discussions, we will focus on the below questions at the session:
- How would a shift to longer-term funding of three years or more support your organisation?
- In what ways would flexible, unrestricted core funding enhance your organisation’s operational effectiveness and governance?
- How critical are inflation-based uplifts and full cost recovery (including core operating costs) to the sustainability of your organisation? Are there any specific issues you want to highlight in relation to this?
- What challenges does your organisation face in ensuring all staff are paid at least the Real Living Wage?
- What challenges exist to delivering Fair Work principles within your organisation?
- What improvements in the application, reporting, and payment processes could make the funding system more efficient for your organisation?
- Is there anything else that you would like to discuss related to funding in the third sector?
If you plan to join our session, please review the above questions and come prepared with your thoughts for us to gather and feed into the consultation.
