The deadline for families to apply for Best Start Grant School Age Payment is Sunday 28th February.
The one-off £250 payment is currently open to families with a child born between Sunday 1st March 2015 – Monday 29th February 2016. It can be used for anything from a warm coat to books and toys.
Parents who have deferred their child’s entry to school from August 2020, to August 2021, or those home educating, should still apply before the closing date.
The payment is part of the Best Start Grant, a package of three payments for families who get tax credits or certain benefits – including Universal Credit, Income Support and Housing Benefit.
Eligible parents can also apply for the new Scottish Child Payment at the same time they apply for Best Start Grant, making it easier for them to receive the support they are entitled to.
Stakeholder resources (including factsheets, flyers and translated materials) for the Scottish Child Payment and Best Start Grants are available on the Social Security Scotland website. They have also produced a short video to help clients and stakeholders understand what Scottish Child Payment is and what the timeline is.
