The office of Brian Leishman MP has launched an online community survey for the communities which fall into the Falkirk Council, and Alloa and Grangemouth UK constituency areas, regarding the Pride in Place Programme, and how local people would spend £20 million of funding in their neighbourhood.
The UK Government has committed £20 million over 10 years for a disadvantaged neighbourhood in the area, as part of Phase 2 of the Pride in Place Programme. Through the survey, Mr Leishman’s office is looking for community input as part of the process – namely, for local people to respond with their ideas for the funding, and what matters to them in their communities.
The Pride in Place programme is aimed at building stronger communities, creating thriving places and empowering people to “take back control”. Phase 2 builds on the work of Phase 1 (which focused on 75 towns across the UK), with an additional 169 neighbourhoods identified. Awarded neighbourhoods will decide how to prioritise the funding, based on extensive community engagement.
Following feedback collected by Mr Leishman’s office (as well as the team at Euan Stainbank MP’s office), a successful neighbourhood from the Falkirk Council area could be selected by the government to receive this £20 million investment over 10 years. This would result in a board of local people being established, designed to put power back into the hands of communities, who will decide how the money should be spent in the area.
It is important to stress that the survey is an invitation for evidence only. Submitting a response does not mean that a neighbourhood is guaranteed to be selected for funding. This decision will be made in line with key parameters and criteria set out by the UK Government.
