Police Scotland’s Forth Valley division has developed a new Banking Protocol information video, with input from Royal Bank of Scotland colleagues.
The video outlines the shared responsibilities of individuals and their family members, with the Banking Protocol a “last line of defence” against fraudulent activity.
The Banking Protocol is a multi-agency initiative between Trading Standards, banking institutions and law enforcement, which aims to prevent and detect fraudulent activity on customers’ bank accounts.
The protocol is designed to protect community members from becoming victims of fraud; many of those who are targeted are vulnerable.
Since the protocol’s inception in Scotland in March 2018, it is estimated that over £11 million pounds has been prevented from falling into the hands of scammers.
The Banking Protocol must always be seen as the last line of defence against fraud, and people are advised to always ensure that they take the appropriate steps to protect their money.
