Families Outside’s next CPD-accredited training for professionals takes place on Wednesday 27 May 2026, 9:30am – 1:30pm, via Microsoft Teams.
“The Impact of Imprisonment on Children and Families” is aimed at professionals from any sector or local authority who want to feel more confident when supporting families affected by imprisonment in their own role. (Previous sessions have been attended by education professionals, social workers and those in the third sector.)
By the end of the training session, participants should be able to:
- better understand the impact of imprisonment on children and families, including the most common issues facing families
- understand and give examples of how a family might be affected at each stage of the criminal justice process
- understand the emotional and practical needs of children affected by imprisonment
- understand the most relevant articles within the UNCRC which relate to children with a parent in prison
- understand and implement Child Impact Assessments as a tool for supporting children with a family member involved in the justice system
- apply their knowledge when supporting families affected by imprisonment and feel confident when supporting them
This Condensed Training Module has been developed by the Families Outside team to include the key elements of each of the individual training modules, in one half day (4 hour) session. The training is interactive, comprising small group activities and whole group discussions alongside information delivered by the trainer and PowerPoint presentation.
Please note that the training uses a mix of learning styles, and that interaction is required. There will also be opportunities to interact with other participants from different professional backgrounds and sectors.
Places are priced at £95 per person for the Condensed Training Module.
