Scottish Government has published the National Carers Strategy, which aims to recognise the contribution and dedication of unpaid carers in Scotland.
The strategy sets out a range of actions across 5 different areas to support unpaid carers, including actions around COVID-19 recovery, the current cost of living crisis, and how carer support can be improved in a meaningful and sustainable way. Other actions include:
- working with employers to support flexible and inclusive workplaces
- supporting unpaid carers to appropriate resources around cost of living
- a new right to breaks from caring
Existing initiatives are also included, along with new proposals, in order to ensure a strategic approach is used in supporting carers, and that their voices and experiences are reflected in all services they use.
An executive summary has also been published (linked for your convenience).
